Crews

All aid stations are available for crew access. Crews are to provide assistance to runners only within 200 meters of an aid station. Crews are discouraged from catching runners outside of aid stations on account of traffic regulations and the risk of disturbing private land-owners. Supplies present at aid stations are for the use and consumption of athletes only. Driving directions for crews can be found below. Relay teams are reminded that only one car is permitted to be in use for crewing purposes at any given time.

Pacers

Considering the density of some forested sections and night-time route-following, pacers will be permitted for the safety of 100 mile solo athletes according to the following:

  • Pacers may join runners only at aid stations beginning with AS#9 Hitching Post, mile 44.5, or after 19:00, whichever comes first. This is an extension over years 1 and 2 per requests to increase the safety of participants on sometimes tricky trails after dark.
  • Pacers are not permitted to mule or assist runners outside of aid stations through carrying gear, running ahead to refill supplies, or leading in navigation.
  • A list of individuals interested in pacing will be accrued by race management and provided to runners per request as available. Race management will not be responsible for guaranteeing that pacers are available and racers should prepare accordingly.
  • Race organizers and volunteers are not in any way responsible for the security of vehicles left on the course or for the transportation of pacers.
Driving Directions and Parking for Runner Crews

Please remember to print off a Crew Map and these directions for use by your crew vehicles before you leave home as we may not have enough copies at the race!

Note: These directions take you in one direction only, from AS#1 to AS#4, the turnaround at the Rock Pile. If you're meeting your runner at each AS you'll reverse each of them to get back (one of your mental floss challenges for the day/s). Please be courteous re: where you park, and only form a line on one side of the road. Where possible, pull off the road to park, and let cars pass so as not to annoy the locals any more than they might be (which can result in stripping or vandalism of course markers). Please be cautious of runners crossing the roads as you approach the AS's and be aware yourself as locals may be driving pretty fast on the road you're pulling off of or parking on.

  • Hope Lake Park to Hitching Post: 1.3 miles - Crew Map #1

Exit park with left turn onto Clute Rd. Hitching Post AS 1.3 miles up in gravel parking area on left. Please make left onto Vinnedge Rd just shy of bottom of hill and either park in lot (enter/exit the same entrance) or along Vinnedge Rd. Please DO NOT park on Clute Rd. If parking on Vinnedge please park on right side only. There is a turnaround point about 1/4 mile down Vinnedge.

  • Hitching Post to TenKate's Crossing: 2.7 miles - Crew Map #2

Exit Vinnedge Rd w/ right turn onto Clute, driving 1.8 miles (passing Hope Lake Park) to a left turn onto Rt. 392. In 0.8 miles SLOW DOWN (runners on road), and in 0.9 miles park in the (former) Gatherings parking lot on the left or along the eastern shoulder/grass of Woodchuck Hollow Rd just west of Gatherings (2.7 mi total). AS across Rt 392, please BE CAREFUL crossing Rt 392 and watch runners crossing in front of Gatherings.

  • TenKate's Crossing to TrailsRoc Station: 6.8 miles - Crew Map #3

Continue east on Rt.392. At 2.0 mi take a right onto Parker St / Rt 132. At 4.6 miles take a right onto Valentine Hill Rd. At 6.8 miles you'll arrive at a cones and AS sign saying park here. The AS is about 200 meters uphill to your right on Virgil Mountain Rd. Vehicular access for AS volunteer supply loading/unloading only.

  • TrailsRoc Station to the Rock Pile AS: 5.4 miles - Crew Map #4

Return the way you came w/ a Right turn onto Quail Valley Rd, right on Harvey Hill around 2.1 mi, right onto Tickner about 2.25 mi, Right onto Fritts Hill Rd around 2.6, straight through intersection around 2.8 mi, Left onto Scutt Hill Rd around 4.25 mi, right onto Bleck Rd around 4.8 mi. The FLT will cross Bleck Rd around 5.4 miles. Please park on one side of the road only and move to shoulder (which drops off steeply so use caution) as much as possible. The Rock Pile AS is left (west, starts downhill, crosses creek, then goes uphill) up the trail about 0.5 miles.

  • There are various spots throughout the course, whether by car, or by foot, where you can intersect/cheer your runner on and get in some miles or viewpoints at the same time. So, pickup a map, zoom in on your phone, and make it workout.
